What's On - Our own events

Downham Hall run our own events to give people a reason to come along. We also welcome those looking to host their ticketed events or gatherings. We run cocktail making, yoga weekends and more seasonal events too. Out What's On page tracks those that are upcoming.


No matter how large or small, Downham Hall is the perfect, tranquil setting to host a Wake, Celebration of Life or a Memorial Celebration. Situated in the heart of the Essex countryside, this Georgian manor house offers beautiful facilities, views and privacy.

Conference and Meetings

Downham Hall offers a range of business functions, from small early morning breakfast meetings, seminar and training days to large scale events to suit a variety of styles from 4 to 90 delegates. Exclusively hire a room, the entire House or our large marquee, whatever suits your requirements.

Downham Hall is the ideal venue for celebrating a special occasion and we have a choice of our beautiful Orangery, De Beauvoir suite and marquee that we are pleased to offer for private dining events.

We had our wedding at Downham Hall and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The venue offered a very good planning service to help organise the day. On the day itself the staff were professional and everything ran very smoothly. The price was also very reasonable considering the quality of the venue. However the thing that sets Downham Hall apart is the setting - the unspoilt panoramic views of the countryside are amazing. The building itself (including the guest rooms) is also very well presented. If anyone is looking at wedding venues I would highly recommend that you consider this place.

Food & Drink

Would it be a proper celebration without food? Whether it’s a sharing-style feast or decadent dinners you’re after, our chefs have got you covered with an extensive list of menus to choose from. And with a licensed bar situated in our marquee, you and your guests can enjoy a range of champagne, wine, beer, cocktails and spirits served by our bar team.

Our Marquee

Whatever the cause for celebration, our marquee is perfect for both daytime and evening gatherings, and can host anywhere from 20 to 180 guests. It’s fully heated during the cooler months and can be opened up to make the most of the gardens during the summer. Plus, with a custom-built bar, lounge seating area, chandeliers and starlit dance floor, you can be the host with the most all year round.
