The Marquee

Situated in beautifully landscaped, part-moated gardens, the marquee offers unrivalled views over the picturesque Essex countryside. Boasting a large, custom-built bar and lounge seating area, chandeliers and fairy lights and complete with dancefloor area, with starlit ceiling canopy, our marquee is perfect for both daytime and evening events hosting anywhere from 30 to 180 guests. It is fully heated during the cooler months, can be opened along one side to make the most of the gardens during the summer and with plenty of space both indoors and out, it is the perfect year-round setting. 

de Beauvoir Suite

In the main venue we have two function rooms available for more intimate events. 

The De Beauvoir suite is our main dining room, boasting a large, original bay window, sumptuous décor and views of the beautiful St. Margaret’s Church on the hill above the Hall. The De Beauvoir suite can seat 25-36 guests for private events. 


The Orangery, with beautiful views of the Essex countryside to the rear of the venue and direct access to the picturesque grounds of Downham Hall, is ideal for smaller events of 10-24 guests.

Food and Drink

At Downham Hall our food is freshly made in-house by our wonderful Head Chef and his team, using quality, local produce. We have a wonderful list of menus which have been especially created to provide the perfect choice for every occasion and with licensed bars serving a wide range of champagne, wine, beer, cocktails and spirits, we promise all the ingredients needed for a truly memorable event.

The perfect add-on to a private dinner or party! With the help of our Mixologist, you'll try your hand at creating three delicious cocktails, learn about the history of the drinks and best of all... enjoy your final product!
